Anne Frank The Diary of a Young Girl Vocabulary Booklet, Presentation, & Answers
This Anne Frank vocabulary resource is designed to help students learn new vocabulary in The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank by using context clues. Rather than simply providing a vocabulary list with definitions, this resource helps students develop their ability to use context clues to determine the meaning of new words as they are used within the diary. This resource includes a vocabulary booklet organized by diary sections where students read the new word in a quote from the text and infer its meaning. Then, they look up the definition to see if they were correct. Presentation slides are included for easy class review or grading.

Students must use context clues to determine the meaning of the bolded word. After students have made their guesses, they determine the definition of the vocabulary term and add it to the assignment.

How to Use This Anne Frank Vocabulary Resource:
Start by teaching students about the different strategies they can use to determine the meaning of new vocabulary. This Anne Frank vocabulary resource is organized by the following sections:
- Section 1: June 12, 1942 – October 14, 1942
- Section 2: October 20, 1942 – July 19, 1943
- Section 3: July 23, 1943 – January 12, 1944
- Section 4: January 15, 1944 – March 19, 1944
- Section 5: March 20, 1944 – May 3, 1944
- Section 6: May 5, 1944 – August 1, 1944
After students have read a section, have them complete the relevant vocabulary assignment by using context clues to determine the definition of the term in each of the quotes. Once students have made their inferences, have them look up the correct definitions or use the included presentation to review the meanings of the words with students.
