Use this creative and fun Halloween escape room team builder activity to help foster classroom community and improve critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The teacher has transformed into a zombie, and students must decode puzzles, riddles, and challenges to get the ingredients to turn them back into a human! This can be used in English class as it incorporates some ELA skills (spelling, homophones), but can also work for any other subject! The best part is that your purchase comes with a hand-drawn video, created by the talented John Spencer, that introduces the escape room and tells the back story to hook students in. Watch a short preview of the video on this page.

How the Zombie Teacher Escape Room Team Builder Works:

The activity begins with students watching a video that introduces the escape room back story. Students arrive at school to learn that their teacher has been transformed into a zombie. They find a book in the library on zombies, but the page with the ingredients they need to save their teacher has been ripped out. They must solve puzzles and riddles in the book to find what they need to save their teacher!

Students will then circulate the room to six different stations, using a response booklet to record their answers to the puzzles and riddles as they circulate the room to different stations. Below are the different zombie-themed stations included:

  • Word Maze: Students make their way through a maze to reveal a riddle which will lead them to the first ingredient.
  • Homophone Cipher Wheel: Students will correct homophone errors and use a cipher wheel to uncover the next ingredient.
  • Jigsaw Puzzle / Riddle: Students put together a jigsaw puzzle to reveal a riddle which leads them to the next ingredient.
  • Spelling Search: Students find and correct spelling errors to uncover the next hidden ingredient.
  • Pictographs: Students will decipher pictograms to reveal hidden words. Once they have them all, they will input them into a table to reveal the next ingredient.
  • Encrypted Message: Students will find zombie-inspired code images hidden throughout the escape room to crack an encrypted message that will help them reverse the zombie effects on their teacher.

What Teachers Are Saying About The Zombie Teacher Escape Room Team Builder:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ My students loved this resource. They were engaged the entire class. They worked in teams against another classroom to complete all of the challenges and were genuinely disappointed when class was over and they had to wait until the next time to finish the escape room.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Engaging and truly had students thinking together. Not simple puzzles, but actual fun and ELA skills. Great break day for students without it being a "break."

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ My students were so engaged! I love Presto Plans! I used it the last week of school and they were so focused and engaged - they didn't want to stop working on it!
